There will be changes...

I have a temporary layout for the blog's fifth year, even more temporary than the temporary layout I set up over a year ago. I've decided I need a break from black background. My wife is working on a new banner which will totally blow your mind. And no, I'm not putting pressure on the wife - really, you'll like it. That gum you like is back in style. Again.

And yes, I'll be posting a little more this year. Yay?

Talk about neglect...

I haven't read anyone's blogs or LJs in over a week. I haven't even read my *own* blog or LJ in over a week.

I'm a lazy schlub.

I will have to make amends.

Yanked

I had posted a couple of choice comments about my previous post and my feelings about this so-called "outrage." However, after discussing the issue with my wife, I decided to backtrack. I not only deleted my comments, but the entire post as well. I did so with great reluctance, but the dialogue had reached a point where further comment would most certainly have done permanent damage to old friendships.

I think this issue has gone way overboard. My blog is a repository of tacky jokes; baby jokes are just part of the bill. I cannot and will not pare my writing style because a few people are offended. If you are hurt by the joke or by my attacks on Ms. Anonymous, I apologize for your hurt. In the heat of discussion, I pulled an innocent third party into the mix, and may have hurt her or her loved ones by doing so. I did so to my regret. The post was not intended to hurt the feelings of my or Tori's friends. I will not, however, apologize for the original joke, which was regarded by many others in the spirit of which it was intended and was in my opinion not offensive.

Finally, I decided to close the comments on this post. If you want to discuss this with me, I feel it would be healthiest to do so in private.

My little book capsule reviews

I don't know if anyone ever read these little tidbits, but I like writing them, so I'll keep posting them. However, I plan to bring a little sanity to the process. Instead of plopping a bunch in there every once in a while, I'll change them out once a month. I won't keep old ones up, so you have a month to read 'em. Of course, I'm also curious to know if folks actually read these books, so e-mail me and tell me what you thought of the literature in question, and I'll post about it later.

That's it. Go back to work.

Relaunch: Phase 1

Yes, I'm back. So far, so good. As you can tell, very little has changed, but the blog will continue to mutate over the next 6-8 weeks before looking absolutely the same, because I play too damned much Kingdom of Loathing, and holiday retail will yet again sap my energy. Hopefully, however, my humble blog will undergo considerable reconstruction. In the meantime, Phase 1 is complete: I'm writing again. Plus I changed the photo. Hooray.

Rejoice, beautiful people. I have returned.

Taking a break

I'm fucking bored.

I get so bored writing about myself. I do not consider myself an exciting person.

I'm sick of the world around me. My country is so fucked up, writing about its fuck-ups seems to be the ultimate cliché.

I'm using a six-year old Mac with a four-year old browser. The TypePad software upgrades has made it too difficult to post because it no longer supports my ancient software.

Time to take a break. Will I return? Dunno. We'll see.

A quick note to posters

A few of you have tried to repond to my recent post and believe you "failed" at doing so.  You have not.  I was getting hit by comment spammers, so as of last month, I moderate all comments.  If you post a reply and don't see it on the blog immediately, give it some time; I'll approve it as soon as I can.

Thanks for continuing to read my quiet blog.

Regards,

The Rev.

2 years of the Rev

Today marks the second birthday of my little blog.  It's been a fun two years writing all this schtuff, which is why you may be surprised that I'm retiring the blog.

It should be a temporary respite, but maybe it won't.  I don't know yet.  I'm bored with it, and I'm not sure what direction to go next.  The blog certainly requires direction, for not only am I bored with my blog, but so's everyone else; my daily hits have dropped by over half since May.  Only about 60 people check out my blog now on average, which was definitely not what I had in mind when I started it up two years ago.  I wasn't hoping for fame and fortune, including book deals and 19-year old co-eds licking my toes, but I did hope for more than a few people reading my blog for reasons other than finding my blog on a Google search for "pig fucking."

I'm sure I'll be back in some form, but for now, I need a break.  Too many things are happening, and I've lost the desire to write about them.  For the time being, I'll maintain the page and update (and read) my links, but it will be at least a couple of weeks before I peep.  In the meantime, thanks for reading.

Regards,

the rev.

Food poisoning or just boredom?

I've been sick since early this afternoon; I suspect the culprit is some ground turkey I fried up to throw in a box of mac and cheese.  Several hours of dizzyness, nausea, and cold sweats later, I cleaned up the blog a bit.  I've added a half-dozen additional links, all of which you must read, along with a couple new literary capsule reviews, which you should also read.

As for me, I'm going to attempt to go to bed now.  Or throw up.  But not simultaneously.  The last thing I want to do, a few days before the Girlfriend's birthday, is pull a Jimi Hendrix on her.  Surprise!  I'm dead!  With vomit oozing from my mouth!  Happy birthday!  Nah, sounds like no fun to me. Maybe if I threw in a birthday cake.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Here I am, still flush from two major Bejeweled victories from last night (beat my record twice in a row; got all the way up to level 15, then level 17 one game later! Woohoo! I celebrated by commencing a long-overdue overall of my blog page. As you can tell, the banner has changed, as well as the text typeface and the colors. I'm not finished yet; it will probably be a while before I'm completely satisfied with the new look. So expect some alterations over the next few days. In the meantime, continue enjoying my little blog in the woods.
