Rich!!! Ugh. I HAVE to comment on this. Although I understand the distinction that you are making here, (between a molestor and predator) I believe that it is exactly that, the gray line sketched out between wrong and wrong that does an enormous disservice to abused children. Abuse is abuse. It is what it is. Michael Jackson was not a child, regardless of his upbringing or his child-like mind. Many people in this world grow up with far worse childhood experiences than MJ. And, unlike him, they do not have the resources to surround themselves with people who could have (and should have) put an end to his obsession with and abuse of children. (Yep, I place some blame on them as well.) Ultimately though, MJ was an abuser. A criminal. Predator, molestor... Tomato, tomaaaato. I'm sure the kids he abused (who trusted him because he was an adult, NOT a four year old) will suffer the same horrific trama no matter what side of that gray line the rest of us stand on.

Please, don't presume I think what Michael Jackson did wasn't wrong! On the contrary, his actions were disgusting and abominable. Although I believe his motives were not those of a predator, as an adult he had the capacity to choose between right and wrong, and he chose wrong. I agree with you entirely, Nadine: his emotional immaturity does not excuse what he did. It does not change the pain he may have inflicted on the children he molested. And you make a valid point: even if he could not determine right or wrong, the people who cared for him definitely could, and they are just as guilty as he is in allowing this to happen. I do not excuse what he did; I offer an explanation as to his motives. But you are right: no matter the motive, the results are the same, which is why he should have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
