None for Me, Thanks

I'm not one to put PSAs in my blog. Screeds, goofy interpretations of perfectly normal headlines--yes. I guess that flip-flop thing could be a PSA, but not really. Not like this one. So bear with me.

First, a little background.

I have a seizure disorder. No, this isn't something new. It's just news to many of you because I prefer to keep it private. I've been dealing with it on and off since 1986 (Jesus--has it really been almost 20 years...?). As best I've been able to tell, "seizure disorder" and "epilepsy" are the same thing. No doctor yet has been able to explain the difference to me. I control it with meds, and all is dandy as long as I remember to take them. I am very lucky that way.

Summer Is A-Comin' In

Inspired by this site, and in honor of the fact that summer is right around the corner, I'm posting a picture from my family's collection. The Boyfriend and I found this one in an old photo album last year. It was most likely taken on the South Side of Chicago or in northern Indiana, sometime between 1910-1920. No, I don't know any of the guys. I just know it's a great shot.

Bad Editors! Bad!

The headline I least needed to see today:

"Woman Gives Birth to Boy Using Old Sperm"

Granted, it's...evocative. But, yuck. And aside from the lovely mental image, it's a grammatical stinkeroo. She didn't use the stuff to actually give birth. She used it for conception.

And did I mention, yuck?

Arkansas Family Marks Birth of 15th Child

You would think a dad named Jim-Bob, the 15 kids, or the fact that they were from Arkansas would be enough.

But this paragraph is what makes it for me. I mean, "Jinger"?

"Their children include two sets of twins, and the parents have stuck to the letter "J" for their names. There is Joshua, 16; Jana and John-David, 14; Jill, 13; Jessa, 11; Jinger, 10; Joseph, 9; Josiah, 7; Joy-Anna, 6; Jeremiah and Jedidiah, 5; Jason, 4; James, 2; and Justin, 1."

And for the record, mom is only 37. In April, she was named "Arkansas Young Mother of the Year." I didn't think that competition was open to anyone over 18.

American Girl, Stay Away from Me

Finally, someone gives American Girl Place the treatment it deserves.

Too damn funny.

Desk Job

First, thanks to everyone who offered advice about how to get rid of my big ol' desk. Much appreciated.

Good news: I found the missing knob.

Beggars, Choosers, Etc.

I've been light on the blogging these past two weeks because my life is a little upside-down right now. Packing, packing, packing for the big move. (My kitchen actually looks like it was turned upside down.)

I have a lot of stuff to take with me--a lot. But one thing I wasn't planning to bring along: A big old wooden desk I got from my dad. It's fine; it just isn't what I need. Plus, fitting it into our tiny office/second bedroom could be a challenge. It's something like 50 inches wide.

What to do? Why, the charitable thing. Donate it. Preferably to someone who will take it away. Because that mo-fo is solid, and I am not moving it down the stairs.

Smile for the Camera

faceShe's pretty, you know. Sabrina has the kind of clean-scrubbed, healthy look you'd expect from a 1947 ad for something refreshing. And such a happy grin, like she's really proud of what she's accomplished.
